In a significant diplomatic engagement, Vietnam’s Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Phạm Gia Túc held discussions with Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys in Hanoi aimed at broadening bilateral cooperation across several strategic sectors. The dialogue underscored a shared interest in enhancing ties in areas such as trade, investment, the digital economy, energy, logistics, cybersecurity, as well as science and technology. Both parties recognized the promising potential these sectors hold for future collaboration.
Vietnam took the opportunity to urge Lithuania to advocate for the ratification of the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) among the remaining EU member states. Additionally, Vietnam sought Lithuania’s support in addressing the European Commission’s “yellow card” warning on Vietnamese seafood exports, which poses challenges to the seafood industry. In response, Lithuania reiterated its dedication to fortifying Vietnam-EU relations and revealed plans to dispatch a business delegation to Vietnam to explore investment avenues and strengthen economic ties.
Beyond bilateral issues, the two countries expressed a shared commitment to working together in multilateral settings. They agreed to enhance their cooperation at the United Nations and to play a constructive role in fostering stronger ASEAN-EU relations. There was a mutual agreement to support peace, stability, and the freedom of navigation in accordance with international law, reflecting a common stance on maintaining regional security and stability.
This meeting marks a step forward in Vietnam-Lithuania relations, showcasing both nations’ intentions to deepen their partnership across various domains. As the dialogue continues, it is anticipated that these efforts will lead to tangible progress in their bilateral and multilateral engagements, benefiting both countries and contributing to broader regional cooperation.
