Vietnam and Denmark Enhance Cooperation with New Strategic Partnership Agreement

Vietnam and Denmark have elevated their bilateral relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, marking a significant step aimed at enhancing cooperation across multiple sectors. This new agreement, announced during Vietnamese President and Communist Party General Secretary To Lam’s state visit to Denmark from October 19 to 21, 2026, coincides with the 55th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations.

The strengthened partnership builds on previous agreements such as the Comprehensive Partnership of 2013 and the Green Strategic Partnership launched in 2023. Both countries have committed to broadening political dialogue and parliamentary exchanges while focusing on economic cooperation in areas like renewable energy, green technology, digital transformation, and healthcare. They see potential in bolstering trade and investment, improving market access, and reinforcing supply chains through existing trade agreements.

Climate action forms a core component of the new partnership, with both countries pledging to collaborate on energy efficiency and renewable energy projects. This aligns with Vietnam’s ambitious target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. The agreement also covers cooperation in maritime security, cybersecurity, research, vocational training, agriculture, and public health.

Both Vietnam and Denmark have reiterated their support for international law and multilateral cooperation, emphasizing the peaceful resolution of disputes and regional stability. They also underscored the importance of freedom of navigation and have expressed intentions to strengthen ties with ASEAN.

To implement the partnership effectively, both governments will devise action plans aimed at turning these commitments into practical cooperation. This move is expected to foster deeper ties and mutual benefits for both nations in the years to come.
