In a recent visit to the Cambodian provinces of Stung Treng and Kratie, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Nguyễn Minh Vũ led efforts to bolster cooperation between Vietnamese localities and northeastern Cambodia. The delegation aimed to assess the business activities of Vietnamese enterprises and the living conditions of the community of Vietnamese origin in the region.
During the meetings, discussions focused on enhancing collaboration in vital sectors such as trade, agriculture, infrastructure, energy, and investment. Cambodian officials underscored the strengthening ties with Vietnamese provinces, noting the positive impact of cooperation agreements, business exchanges, and development initiatives. Kratie province particularly commended the advancements in diplomatic and socio-economic partnerships with Vietnam, which include infrastructure development support and joint missions to locate and repatriate the remains of Vietnamese soldiers who perished in Cambodia during wartime.
Ambassador Nguyễn Minh Vũ acknowledged the significant contributions made by Vietnamese companies in sectors like agriculture, mining, and rubber production within Cambodia. These ventures have been instrumental in propelling local economic growth and fortifying bilateral relations. In Stung Treng, local authorities highlighted the province’s promising investment opportunities in high-tech agriculture and eco-tourism, urging more Vietnamese businesses to explore these prospects.
Engagement with the Vietnamese-origin community was also a priority during the visit. Ambassador Vũ addressed legal and livelihood concerns while advocating for adherence to local regulations and support for educational and sustainable development initiatives. According to current figures, Vietnam has established over 200 investment projects in Cambodia, with total registered capital nearing $3 billion, positioning it as one of Cambodia’s largest foreign investors.
