Vietnam has underscored its commitment to aiding Myanmar through the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), reaffirming that the Five-Point Consensus is the pivotal framework for achieving peace and stability in the country. During an informal ASEAN foreign ministers’ meeting in Bangkok, Vietnamese Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung highlighted Vietnam’s recognition of Myanmar as a crucial member of ASEAN. He emphasized Vietnam’s support for initiatives aimed at fostering national reconciliation, economic recovery, and enhanced governance in Myanmar.
The Vietnamese Foreign Minister urged ASEAN to take more practical and concrete actions, such as maintaining regular dialogue and direct engagement with Myanmar. These steps are seen as essential for better monitoring developments and encouraging meaningful progress. Additionally, Vietnam expressed its willingness to collaborate closely with the 2026 ASEAN Chair and other member states to help Myanmar address social challenges, combat transnational crime, and strengthen regional cooperation.
ASEAN ministers collectively reaffirmed their dedication to facilitating a Myanmar-led resolution through ongoing dialogue and the effective application of the Five-Point Consensus. This commitment aims to promote peace, stability, and sustainable development throughout the region. The emphasis on a Myanmar-led solution reflects ASEAN’s approach to respecting the sovereignty of its member states while encouraging constructive collaboration.
Vietnam’s proactive stance reflects a broader regional effort to stabilize Myanmar, which has faced significant challenges in recent years. By prioritizing regular engagement and dialogue, ASEAN hopes to encourage a positive trajectory for Myanmar’s future. The consensus among ASEAN ministers to support Myanmar through a cooperative framework underscores the importance of regional unity in addressing complex geopolitical issues.
