General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President Tô Lâm has been announced as the recipient of the prestigious 2026 Lev N. Tolstoy International Peace Prize. This accolade recognizes his significant contributions to fostering peace and promoting international cooperation. The international jury, in a unanimous decision, highlighted Tô Lâm’s efforts in enhancing dialogue and fostering cooperation among nations.
Valery Gergiev, jury chairman and General Director of the Bolshoi Theatre, lauded the decision, emphasizing Vietnam’s impressive economic growth while maintaining its cultural heritage amidst global integration. The jury praised Tô Lâm for his pivotal role in advancing Vietnam’s development and his steadfast support for global justice, adherence to international law, and the encouragement of peaceful dialogue on the international stage.
Among the jury members were notable figures such as Vladimir Tolstoy, Director General of the State Museum of L.N. Tolstoy and a descendant of the famous Russian writer Leo Tolstoy, French public figure Pierre de Gaulle, and South African parliamentarian Lindiwe Sisulu. They acknowledged the importance of upholding the humanitarian values championed by Tolstoy, underscoring the significance of Tô Lâm’s contributions.
Moreover, the jury members commended Vietnam’s remarkable transformation from a war-torn nation to one of the fastest-growing economies in the Asia-Pacific region. They described Vietnam’s development as an inspirational model for countries striving for peace and sustainable progress. The Lev N. Tolstoy International Peace Prize, now in its third iteration, honors individuals who have made notable contributions to peace and international understanding.
