Vietnam’s To Lam Advocates Tech-Driven Peace and Multilateral Trust at UN

The call for greater international cooperation and adherence to international law by Vietnamese General Secretary and President To Lam at the United Nations could shape global diplomatic strategies. Speaking at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, To Lam emphasized the urgent need for nations to build trust, engage in dialogue, and respect each other’s sovereignty to prevent conflicts.

To Lam outlined four key priorities that he believes are essential for managing global changes. These include fostering trust based on the UN Charter and international law, promoting sustainable and inclusive development, responsibly governing emerging technologies, and reinforcing the central role of the United Nations in global affairs. His remarks underscore Vietnam’s commitment to multilateralism and its support for peaceful resolutions in regional disputes.

In addressing the rapid advancements in technology, To Lam highlighted the importance of ensuring that innovations like artificial intelligence and digital transformation contribute to bridging development gaps rather than exacerbating divisions. He advocated for inclusive, transparent, and accountable governance of technology, with a particular emphasis on involving developing nations in the creation of international rules and standards.

To Lam also called for reforms within the United Nations to better reflect the interests of developing countries. He expressed Vietnam’s support for changes to the General Assembly, Security Council, and Secretariat, aimed at enhancing the organization’s effectiveness.

Reaffirming Vietnam’s commitment to regional peace and security, To Lam advocated for the peaceful resolution of disputes in accordance with international law. He emphasized Vietnam’s dedication to ASEAN cooperation and its active role in UN peacekeeping efforts, further solidifying the country’s stance on multilateral collaboration.
