Vietnam and Azerbaijan Boost Strategic Partnership with Trade and Travel Initiatives

Vietnam and Azerbaijan are set to enhance their strategic partnership through expanded cooperation in trade, energy, and travel. This commitment was reinforced during Vietnamese Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan’s talks with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva in Baku on October 14. The discussions were part of Xuan’s visit to the seventh Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA).

Both nations emphasized the importance of strengthening economic ties, particularly in sectors such as oil and gas, energy, transport, and agriculture. They also explored opportunities in tourism, education, science, and technology. Joint energy projects and investment opportunities for businesses from both countries featured prominently in their agenda.

To facilitate these initiatives, Vietnam and Azerbaijan agreed to promote high-level exchanges and improve coordination between government agencies. They also discussed the potential for visa exemptions for ordinary passport holders and the establishment of direct air routes to bolster tourism and business exchanges.

The talks further highlighted cooperation in culture, education, mining, and aluminum production, with an emphasis on fostering stronger people-to-people ties. Both countries pledged to enhance their collaboration at regional and international forums, advocating for multilateralism and adherence to the United Nations Charter and international law.

These discussions mark a significant step in advancing the Vietnam-Azerbaijan Strategic Partnership, established following Vietnamese Party General Secretary To Lam’s visit to Azerbaijan in 2025.
