In an effort to strengthen state authority and rebuild public trust, particularly in regions traditionally influenced by Hezbollah, the Lebanese government is working to assert itself. The army has taken on roles in reconstruction and infrastructure projects in areas newly returned from Israeli control, striving to make government institutions more prominent within local communities. However, the state faces considerable hurdles, as ongoing Israeli attacks and military activity in southern Lebanon have eroded confidence in the government’s ability to protect its citizens.
While some residents criticize the government for its inadequate response, others blame Hezbollah for perpetuating cycles of conflict.
