Rupert Grint Returns as Ron Weasley in Tech-Enhanced ‘Cursed Child’

Rupert Grint is preparing to step back into the shoes of his beloved character, Ron Weasley, as he joins the Broadway production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. This marks Grint’s return to the role over a decade after the conclusion of the iconic Harry Potter film series. Starting in February 2027, Grint will take on a 17-week stint in the long-running stage adaptation, which has captivated audiences worldwide.

Reflecting on his return, Grint expressed his excitement about revisiting Ron Weasley, a character he first portrayed at age 11. He noted the unique experience of returning to the role at a point where both he and Ron are now fathers, adding a layer of depth to the character that feels both familiar and novel. His return to the magical world follows that of Tom Felton, who recently reprised his role as Draco Malfoy in the same production. Felton’s engagement with the show is set to continue until January.

Since its debut in London in 2016, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has expanded to numerous international locations, with the New York production alone generating over $532 million. The stage show has successfully sold more than 14 million tickets globally, cementing its status as a theatrical phenomenon.

Grint’s acting career has flourished since his days in the Harry Potter films, with Broadway experience from his 2014 debut in the comedy It’s Only a Play. His recent film credits include appearances in Knock at the Cabin, Charlie Countryman, and Nightborn. As he returns to the wizarding world, a new Harry Potter television series is also in development for HBO, promising to introduce the story to a fresh generation of viewers.
