Thai PM Urges UN Reform and Emphasizes Dialogue for Regional Peace

Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has called for comprehensive reform of the United Nations and emphasized the need for stronger multilateral cooperation during his address at the 81st session of the U.N. General Assembly in New York. Anutin highlighted the importance of restoring trust to ensure that all countries have a meaningful voice in global affairs, stressing that true peace requires cooperation and dialogue, beyond just the absence of conflict.

In discussing regional issues, Anutin urged for dialogue to resolve disputes between Thailand and Cambodia. He underscored Thailand’s stance that maritime discussions under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea should prioritize maritime delimitation. The Prime Minister also reiterated Thailand’s commitment to supporting peace and national reconciliation in Myanmar, advocating for peaceful approaches to conflicts around the world, including the ongoing situation in Palestine.

Anutin’s speech at the General Assembly reflects Thailand’s broader diplomatic efforts to advocate for peaceful conflict resolution and enhanced international cooperation. His call for U.N. reform is aimed at ensuring that the organization remains an effective platform for addressing global challenges through collaborative efforts.
