Vietnam is actively pursuing enhanced trade and investment ties with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Egypt, aiming to broaden market access and boost economic collaborations. Vietnamese Vice President Võ Thị Ánh Xuân has emphasized the importance of leveraging the Vietnam-EAEU Free Trade Agreement to bolster bilateral trade and investment. She suggested exploring potential upgrades to this agreement and urged the EAEU to address barriers affecting Vietnamese exports, particularly in textiles, footwear, and rice.
Efforts to improve trade data coordination and accelerate the convening of their joint committee were key topics of discussion. Both sides also considered expanding the use of electronic certificates of origin to facilitate smoother trade. EAEU officials noted that bilateral trade nearly doubled, underscoring opportunities for further growth in this partnership.
In a separate engagement with Egyptian Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Hussein Mohamed Ahmed Eissa, Vice President Xuân advocated for increased high-level exchanges and deeper economic cooperation between Vietnam and Egypt. She expressed a desire to work towards a Vietnam-Egypt free trade agreement, identifying agriculture, infrastructure, tourism, digital transformation, education, and renewable energy as areas ripe for increased collaboration.
The discussions took place in Bishkek during Vietnam’s attendance at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Plus Summit, illustrating Hanoi’s intent to fortify economic and diplomatic ties with regional allies. As Vietnam continues to seek greater integration into global markets, these meetings mark significant steps in expanding its economic footprint and fostering stronger international relationships.
