Vietnamese Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng has advocated for the establishment of a highly skilled and swiftly deployable international search and rescue team to enhance Vietnam’s participation in global humanitarian and disaster relief efforts. This call to action was made during a ceremony celebrating the country’s rescue mission in Venezuela, following devastating twin earthquakes.

During the event, the Prime Minister commended the 124-member team, comprised of military and public security personnel, for their exemplary professionalism and dedication to humanitarian service. The rescue team made significant contributions during their mission, including the recovery of 57 victims, the delivery of 5.6 tonnes of relief supplies, and providing medical assistance to over 130 residents. Additionally, they offered financial aid to communities impacted by the disaster.

In his address, Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng emphasized the importance of bolstering Vietnam’s rescue capabilities by investing in modern equipment, offering specialized training, and improving coordination and partnerships on an international scale. He stressed the need for greater support and recognition for individuals participating in overseas humanitarian missions.

The Vietnamese rescue delegation’s efforts did not go unnoticed, as they were honored with Venezuela’s Hero of Venezuela Medal, acknowledging their substantial contributions to the relief operations in the aftermath of the earthquakes.
