The 16th National Assembly of Vietnam is set to convene for its first extraordinary session, taking place in Hanoi from August 3 to August 24. During this session, legislators are poised to tackle an extensive legislative agenda, which includes deliberating on several significant national projects.
This session’s agenda comprises 33 items, among which are the passage of 15 draft laws and four draft resolutions. Additionally, lawmakers will conduct first readings of seven more bills and engage in discussions surrounding seven critical national issues. The proposed legislation touches on diverse sectors such as petroleum, urban development, anti-money laundering, telecommunications, customs, investment, publishing, and national defense.
In addition to legislative matters, the session will also focus on reviewing major infrastructure and development projects. Among these initiatives are the Hanoi Ring Road No. 5, modifications to the Lào Cai–Hà Nội–Hải Phòng railway project, and the Ninh Thuận nuclear power project. The establishment of Quảng Ninh and Bắc Ninh cities is also on the agenda, along with special policy mechanisms for renewable energy, projects for APEC 2027, and digital transformation efforts.
This extraordinary session highlights the National Assembly’s commitment to addressing a broad spectrum of issues that are pivotal to Vietnam’s development.
